In the past few months we have been working on the Lollipop update for the Aquaris E5 FHD and the Aquaris E6, in order to provide the most stable version of Android possible.

We had been committed to delivering this update right from the very start. However, the support for this platform by the manufacturer of the processor has been greatly reduced in the past few months. We have currently reached a point at which intervention by MediaTek is needed to solve errors in the component drivers, but they have informed us that they will no longer offer support to this platform. This means that we are unable to resolve these issues or continue to work on the firmware.

In response to this, we have decided to publish the update in its current state to offer users the possibility of installing it manually. We will also publish the GPL codes so that developers can use the work we have done so far in their unofficial ROMs. We must, however, warn users that as the firmware is in beta, installing it may cause errors or system instability for which we cannot offer support, due to what we have explained here.

In order to compensate for the wait and the cancellation of the update, we would like to offer customers with an Aquaris E6, Aquaris E5 FHD or Aquaris E10 a discount of €50 off the Aquaris M5, Aquaris M5.5 or Aquaris M10. This discount may be requested before 30 June 2016 using our contact form.

Our intention was always to deliver this update to our customers, but unfortunately we are unable to offer a stable version of Android 5.1. Continuing the journey we began with the Aquaris E5 4G, all future BQ smartphones will contain Qualcomm processors, which will allow us to offer updates which respond to our users’ needs.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our beta testers for all the help and support they have provided right from the beginning.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused.
