It’s been 5 years since the start of BQ! To celebrate this, we have organized an event open to the public where technology is the absolute protagonist.

At the BQ Open Day, we enjoyed talks and workshops given by a number of professionals from the technology world, a round-table discussion on technological education, and what for many was the highlight of the event, the presentation of our new devices. Another one of our big announcements: We now offer a 5-year commercial warranty on all of our new smartphones  and for the Aquaris M range.

With this event, one of our biggest objectives was to convey an idea that we firmly believe in: The importance of technological education. In the words of the CEO Alberto Méndez, “During this time we would like to share opinions on education and bring technology closer to everyone. We would like everyone to see technology as something familiar and contribute to the technological development of our country”.

As for the presentation of the new products, Alberto Méndez didn’t delay in announcing each novelty in a pleasant and very informative chat, in which all the specifications, as well as prices of the new devices, were revealed. Meanwhile, at one end of the stage, our colleague from BQ, David, started assembling something mysterious which was only to be known an hour later at the end of the chat, when it was completely assembled.

  • The presentation started with BQ’s best known range: the Aquaris X5 smartphone. The new BQ smartphone stands out due to its ultra-slim, lightweight and resistant finish, with metal as a star feature.
  • The next device presented was the Aquaris M10, a lightweight, compact tablet  which stands out for its autonomy and the optimization of its internal components. It’s the first tablet in Europe with Dolby Atmos technology, which propagates sound accurately and clearly to any point in three-dimensional space.

  • Halu  is BQ‘s first Internet of Things project, and it will take the interaction between everyday items and people one step further. It is a smart lamp that allows control over the light intensity and colour from a smartphone, tablet or computer, thanks to its own Wi-Fi network. Also, keeping in line with our established philosophy, it is Open Source, allowing for the creation of new applications and ways to interact with light.
  • Also presented was what will probably be the most popular toy this Christmas: Zowi, an amusing robot that’s the result of an agreement between BQ and ClanTVE. It’s an educational product that children can disassemble, reassemble and program, passing through various levels of difficulty, making it a fun challenge.

  • The Witbox 2 and the Hephestos 2 continue, renewing the open source 3D printing range for these printers made in Spain.

Nearing the end of the presentation, Alberto Méndez revealed what was going on discreetly to the side of the stage while he was speaking about the new product launches: during this time, David had assembled the Hephestos 2!
What better way to demonstrate how simple and quick it is to assemble a 3D printer than doing it in front of everyone and in less than an hour?

Further to the presentation of these novelties, we opened the doors to our Innovation Department. Those who visited the department  got to know some of the projects we are currently investigating. Among others, a 3D printed prosthesis with a biometric sensor that allows nerve signals to be converted into articulated prosthesis movements.

Lastly, we took the opportunity to announce our new Express Support service (currently available in Madrid) which, for €9.90, offers a device repair within two hours.

The BQ Open Day was a celebration of technology that we had the pleasure of sharing with those who wished to enjoy it with us.
