Hard-Reset-E5-4G

If you need to perform a hard reset on your Aquaris E5 4G, Aquaris M5 or M5.5 device and don’t know how, today we will show you.

NB: Has your device been updated to Android version 5.1 or higher? If so, you’ll need to unlock your phone’s bootloader before starting this process.

Download the necessary files

First download the necessary files for your device from our website:

Aquaris E5 4G: http://www.mibqyyo.com/descargas/categorias/aquaris-e5-4g/

Aquaris M5: http://www.mibqyyo.com/descargas/categorias/aquaris-m5/

To download the files from our website, simply click on the “Drivers and Utilities” link, then click on the “Download” link once it appears. Choose where you want to save the file and acceptand a RAR file named “Drivers qualcomm + adb” will be saved on your computer.

Now we need to download the firmware files for the device to begin the hard reset, which are found on our website.

Aquaris M5: http://www.mibqyyo.com/descargas/categorias/aquaris-m5/

Downloading them is easy, click on the latest “Firmware” link, type in your serial number (found at the back of the device) and then click on “Download”.

Note: The files are compressed in a RAR and ZIP format so you will need a compressor tool such as Win-RAR to open them.

Unzip the necessary files for the procedure

Locate the “Drivers qualcomm + adb.rar” file that you previously downloaded from our website.

Extract the file contentsusing Win-RAR or any other tool, and place it in an easily accessible location, such as your computer’s desktop.

The compressed file contains an executable file named “BQ_Handset_USB_Driver.exe”.

Install the drivers

Now we take the executable file “BQ_Handset_USB_Driver.exe” and move it to the C: drive, also known as the root directory. Once placed here, right-click on “BQ_Handset_USB_Driver.exe” and select the option “Run as Administrator”. Follow the instructions of the setup wizard until the drivers are installed, as shown in the images below.

Preparing the device for the procedure

Firstly, we need to enable the USB debugging mode found in the Developer options menu. The “Developers options” will not be available unless they have been previously activated. To activate them, simply click on “About phone”, then “Build number” and tap on it seven times. Going back to the phone settings, we can see that on top of “About phone” the “Developer options” are now enabled. Once the “Developers options” are active, press on “it and turn on the options (using the slider located in the top right corner) and then enable “USB debugging” mode.

Then we need to activate the installer mode, which can be done by disabling the MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) mode.

NB: If your device is the M5.5, you don’t need to disable MTP mode.

To do this, we need to go to “Storage, under the phone settings menu. Then click on the three dots icon (located in the top right corner) and select “USB computer connection”. Here you will be able to disable the “Media device (MTP)” mode, if enabled.

If done properly, two messages will be displayed in the notification bar, ”USB debugging connected” and “Connected as an installer”.

Activating the connection mode

Once the settings are set up and ready, we need to open up the “Device manager” that will help us to checkthe installing controllers. To do this, type “Device Manager” into the windows search bar and open it once it appears in the search list.

Now connect your device (while switched on) to the computer, so that it can recognise it and install all of its controllers. Don’t worry, this process might take a couple of minutes.

Several devices will be displayed once connected, each one will need to install its own driver.

Once everything is ready, we will find the following devices:

  • Android Devices

  • Android Composite ADB Interface

  • Ports (COM and LPT)

  • Android Application Interface (COMXX)

  • Android Diagnostics Interfaces (COMXX)

Note: During the procedure, the phone will ask you to accept the digital signature (it usually appears while the drivers are being installed or when we run the hard reset program). Please be aware that the device will require your permission in order to continue with the procedure.

Performing the hard reset

Now we are ready to start, extract the folder from the firmware ZIP that we downloaded earlier and place the folder in the C: drive. Once extracted, you will find that the “fastbootdownload” folder extracted contains all the necessary files.

Right-click on the “8916_fastboot_all_images.bat” file and select the “Run as Administrator. ”option. Accept the confirmation.

Now press the Volume (-) button once to select “Wipe data factory reset”, and the Power button to confirm. Another menu will appear, press the Volume (-) key to select “Yes—delete all user data”, confirming again with the Power button.

The device will return to the Recovery menu when the wiping process is complete and you will need to select “Reboot system now”, press the Power button to confirm. The device will now reboot.

Troubleshooting

If the process does not start on running the “8916_fastboot_all_images.bat” file, we recommend trying the following steps:

Open the Device manager and verify that the drivers were correctly installed. In the Device Manager, make sure that the device is recognised by the computer. Make sure the device is switched on and that both “USB debugging connected” and “Connected as an installer” are activated. If a yellow triangle appears, this means that the drivers were not installed correctly.

Disconnect and reconnect the device. Check if the digital signature message is displayed and accept it.

Try and connect the device to another USB port, we recommend using the rear ports as we tend to use them less.

Make sure that you have sufficient battery power as the processwill require at least 30%.

Alternative method

If you are still unable to perform the hard reset after the previous steps, please follow these instructions:

  • Install the driversas explained earlier.
  • Disconnect your device and turn it off. Hold down the Power and Volume (-) buttons. It will boot in “Fastboot mode”, displaying a white background with the BQ logo, indicating “Fastboot mode” in red letters.
  • Now Connect your device to your computer.

  • Run the “8916_fastboot_all_images.bat” and the process will begin automatically. Please follow the steps until you have completed the process.
